Buildings Made Out of Steel

Steel based construction

Steel buildings have been around for quite a while; the Empire State Building is a steel structure. The steel is used both structurally and architecturally in many buildings. Steel buildings have had a major impact on first the commercial construction business, and more recently the residential construction business. The introduction of steel into the construction industry has changed the industry for the better forever.

The advantages of steel

Steel buildings are much cheaper to build than those using other types of construction materials. A steel building can be erected quicker than most other types of structures, with the exception of a concrete tilt-up building. Buildings that are made from steel are among the strongest structures man can make. That doesn?¢‚Ǩ‚Ñ¢t mean the building has to look like it is made of steel. The fa?ɬßade can be covered in any number of materials, giving the building any sort of look the builder desires, from traditional to super modern. Steel buildings tend to be very easy to maintain, since all you really need to do is paint them every few years. Steel buildings are being used in a wide variety of structures and the variety only continues to grow. Churches, schools, and businesses have been built from steel structural components for a long time, but now even residential homes are getting into the act.

The home of steel

The reasons steel is good for residential applications are many. Steel is impervious to insect infestation. It will not rot, nor will it soak up water should a flood happen. Steel has much higher heat resistance than wood so it will stand up better in a fire situation. Steel is a green material for the simple fact that it is recycled at much higher rate than any other material. The structural members of a home would probably be made from recycled materials and would be recyclable again should the building be taken down.
